Benview is a traditional stone house that was the original school house for the village until the late 1920s. The house is situated on the North Harris foreshore with the loch to one side, the river tumbling down over rocks to the front and mountains to the rear – the best of everything! Ideal for walking, cycling and bird watching. The garden fronts onto the river and there are plenty of places to sit out as well as a bridge, a small island and rocks to scramble over on the foreshore.

Benview is an ideal centre for touring – to the north for Stornoway and Lewis by road about 45 minutes and to the south to the Uists via the Sound of Harris ferry at Leverburgh. Boat trips are available to St Kilda and the Shiants from Leverburgh, to Taransay from Horgabost beach. Golf and fishing are close by and can be arranged. Mountain bikes can be hired close by.

We offer comfortable warm accommodation in a newly refurbished ensuite room with a double bed. The ensuite shower room has views looking over the whaling station site to the loch towards Taransay and from the bedroom to the frequently snow capped mountains. Downstairs you will have use of a snug sittingroom with stunning views of the loch and the river beyond the garden. This room is well stocked with books, jigsaw puzzles, games and maps for your enjoyment. We have free unencrypted wifi internet access. Breakfast can be taken in this room or in the garden overlooking the river.

Breakfast will include local sausages and bacon, free range eggs from hens whose names we know, home made bread and preserves. An evening meal is available on Sunday and packed lunches everyday if you wish.
